Profile Directory

Christy Symington is a sculptor and tutor based in London.
Her portrait sculptures and figures raise awareness of people whose achievements are substantial, but not widely known, to bring life to their story. These are often 'people of colour'.
Her abstract work envelops the ad-hockery of materials. Sensual impressions, textural scars and added remnants offer memories of that now absent. Growth, as well as decay, reveal the evidence of the cycle of life. Primal connections between peoples and their environments, both natural and urban, are linked by cultural beliefs and basic needs.
Knowledge of the figure is blended into her abstract work and as time goes on, the knowledge she gains from the process of materials from the abstract work feeds into her portraiture and figurative sculpture.
• In her studio, she teaches Small Group PORTRAIT SCULPTURE classes
• Baby Hand and Feet Castings and Fine Art Body Casting by commission
Christy is an Associate of the Royal British Society of Sculptors (and Director from 2003-07). She studied in Paris, New York and London and is teaching and exhibiting regularly.
Christy is pursuing a substantial project, "THE GRASS WEDGE" - a grass-covered Sculpture Park on the Bridge spanning the river Thames at Blackfriars on the existing cast iron columns between the rail and road bridges. All interests, advice and support welcomed.
