The Creative Lewisham Agency was set up in 2001 as the result of a study into creativity in the borough of Lewisham. This report, written by Charles Landry, recommended that an Agency be set up to generate ideas, assess feasibility, trigger and help launch initiatives, and seek synergies.
The Creative Lewisham Agency was funded entirely by London Borough of Lewisham for two years. During this time, we built up our network of contacts and developed key partnerships with organisations in Lewisham and the wider London area; worked with the Lewisham Arts Service, and the Regeneration and Economic Development departments to further the aims of creative practitioners living, working and learning in the borough; we developed an enterprise course for start-up creatives; launched a public art consultancy and worked with local designers to set up the Deptford Design Festival as part of the London Design Festival.
In 2004, the Creative Lewisham Agency registered as a company limited by guarantee. The company is overseen by a Board of six members. Currently, we are funded by the London Development Agency with additional funding from London Borough of Lewisham.
The Agency offers the following services:
Economic strategy
Partnership brokerage
Strategic partnership development
Bid facilitation / writing
Network development / support
Incubation centre development

In 2005, the Creative Lewisham Agency wrote the Deptford / Greenwich Creative Hub Investment Plan and submitted it to the London Development Agency as part of their Creative Hub plan for London. The Investment Plan lays out a strategic framework within which to develop the enormous potential of the creative sector in the Hub area. The Plan focuses on the economic development of the sector, fitting in with Creative Londons aim to grow the sector by 50% over the next 10 years.
The Plan was accepted by both Creative London and Greater London Economics and in December 2005, this area became one of only two Creative Hubs in London.
