Cristina Guitián is a freelance illustrator based in London. Born and educated in Madrid, where she studied Illustration, she came to London on a scholarship 4 years ago, before deciding to stay permanently.
Recently she has been commissioned for various types of projects - from campaigns for Shell and Specsavers, to site-specific works for social change movements such as WeAreWhatWeDo and Barnardos.
She combines printed illustration for both on editorial and advertising with online illustration animating her drawings with Flash.
Cristina regulary takes part on collaborative projects and exhibitions.
Her drawings and animations tell stories about machines and the characters that inhabit them. They may look cute, but some of them tend to have a darker side. She plays with contraries and deformities in order to celebrate diversity and explore new shapes. Her style is a combination of line-drawing and collage using her own photographs, magazine cutouts and found objects.
