‘Paintings of iconic buildings within an iconic building’ Rosalind Davis
Rosalind’s unusual and delicate mixed media paintings examine the buildings that reflect human worth and the currency of a life. Inheritance focuses particularly on the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust and the Royal British Legion, two very different community-based organisations in Deptford. Paintings of their buildings sit alongside exhibits from other community centres to reflect the relationships local groups have with the buildings they consider important to the development of their community. These are the buildings that seek to bring worth and value to people's lives through their existence.
Inheritance will also involve contributions by the students of the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust.
Davis fuses painting with collage and embroidery adding fragility and tenderness to the subject matter, emphasising the disconcerting juxtaposition between aesthetics and meaning. Rosalind Davis is a local artist who studied at the Royal College of Art. Davis has paintings in both public and private collections and has exhibited widely in many prestigious shows and galleries, most recently at Contemporary Art projects and Signal Gallery in Hoxton.
