Patrick Semple’s work creates another skin around our usual perceptions. He works with bones, with natural materials, the dried up and discarded, to construct narratives that lie just beyond comprehension. His work rests on the principle that history, and therefore meaning, is not a catalogue of facts but a river of opinion. By a subversion of conventional classifications, a grafting of limb to branch, a new state of being is created in which truth can be re-evaluated.
