Patrick Semple selected for the RWA Open, Bristol
Posted by patrick semple on 28.05.08
Two images, from a series shot in Sarajevo last year, have been selected for the RWA Photography Open in Bristol in June. A pair of neglected display cases in the National Museum contain suggestions of presence, hints perhaps of former occupation. Uncurated: Ladder and Uncurated: Chair however, prove to be merely reflections and dust.
Through The Lens is at the RWA Bristol from 8th June to 20th ...
Patrick Semple - Solo exhibition in Ludlow
Posted by patrick semple on 08.05.08
Following his recent installation in the Greenwich Foot Tunnel, Patrick Semple has been invited to show at the Assembly Rooms in Ludlow, Herefordshire. Though the Greenwich piece included ‘the silver, severed hand of King Ludd’ there is no certain connection with the town of Ludlow. The mythical Ludd is based on the Celtic ‘sacrificial king’ Ludd Llaw Eraint who saved Britain from a plague of screams and is said to have founded London.

The show runs from 9th May until 15th June.

Patrick Semple and Bea Denton in Cupboard Love
Posted by patrick semple on 10.02.08
Two artists from Creekside form the first of the new season of art installed in the lifts of the Greenwich Foot Tunnel.
Patrick Semple’s work in the north lift, plays with the boundaries of the conventional space seeing the foot tunnel as a ritual journey from Stygian marsh to Enlightenment. The piece, as yet unfinished, includes a severed silver hand and parts of a dog.
Bea Denton will show a series of images in the south lift akin to the ‘spirit’ pictures of the early photographers. These souls, born of her recent work Via Dolorosa (2007), have undergone their own transforming journey projected through a camera obscura and back onto a digital lens.

Two dysfunctional tools have been selected for this year's Discerning Eye exhibition at the Mall Galleries, 15th-25th November. The objects, made from bone and scraps of metal are cased in felt-lined boxes and have been classified according to Linnaean rules, thus the smaller of the two is called Scalpellum Phallusis...

Old Dog Goes to Conjuring School
Posted by patrick semple on 19.06.07
Deptford Arts Network is rumoured to be closing down after three years following intense discussions. It is hoped that a new body may rise, phoenix-like, from the ashes offering barbecued wings and smoked breast alongside the more traditional fare of news and insider information.
